Tennessee Volunteers Making Massive Additions in the Transfer Portal

The Tennessee Volunteers are reloading for the 2027 college baseball season with some massive additions in the transfer portal over the last couple of days.

World Baseball Network looks at some of the biggest transfer additions for the Volunteers this offseason as they put together an impressive class.

A look at the big-time hitters heading to Knoxville in 2027

One big addition for the Tennessee Volunteers is Cal Baptist’s Chris Ramirez. He is coming off a big sophomore season with the Lancers with a .356 batting average and a .418 on-base percentage.

Ramirez also had 17 stolen bases in 2026 with 20 doubles and 31 RBIs. He is the reigning Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. He was formerly the WAC Freshman of the Year in 2025.

Another big bat the Volunteers recently added is Baylor’s Travis Sanders. In 2026, Sanders had a .369 batting average with 15 doubles, nine home runs, and 44 RBIs. He was a well-disciplined plate presence for the Bears this season with a .458 on-base percentage, which ranked top 10 out of all individual players in the Big 12.

Sanders was also named second-team All-Big 12 this season.

Wright State’s Andrew Duncan is an outfielder who committed to Tennessee in the transfer portal recently. In 166 at-bats in 2026, he had a .380 batting average with six home runs and 33 RBIs. He had an on-base percentage of .449 and stole 12 bases last season as well.

Duncan will provide experience to Tennessee’s roster in 2027, which it lacked in 2026. He will be a senior next year for the Volunteers.

Volunteers add Louisville pitcher Parker Detmers

Louisville’s Parker Detmers is heading to Tennessee by way of the transfer portal as well. The right-handed pitcher missed the 2026 college baseball season due to having Tommy John surgery.

Before the surgery, Detmers was slotted into Louisville’s starting rotation in 2025 and had some good numbers. In 16 innings of work and four starts, he had a 3.94 ERA and 15 strikeouts.

After rehabilitation from his injury, Detmers makes for a strong addition to Tennessee’s revitalized pitching staff under first-year pitching coach Austin Knight. Knight is heading to Knoxville after seven seasons with the East Carolina Pirates.

Tennessee in 2026

In 2026, the Tennessee Volunteers went 38-22 overall and had a 15-15 record in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. It was the first season for the Volunteers under their new head coach, Josh Elander.

Tennessee made the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season and played in the Chapel Hill regional. They were knocked out in two games after suffering losses to East Carolina and VCU.
