Grassroots Baseball is producing the project See Her, Be Her, a documentary on women’s baseball around the globe. Today, it was announced that Billie Jean King is joining the team as an Executive Producer.
King is considered one of the best tennis players, with an impressive 39 Grand Slam Titles, and has won three World Team Tennis Championships. She is also a longtime advocate for women’s sports, social justice, and equality. She has a lot on her resume.
She is the founder of the Women’s Sports Foundation and the Women’s Tennis Association and is also a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. Lastly, she was the first female athlete to be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Jean Fruth, the film’s director and producer, along with co-producer and former National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum President Jeff Idelson, had met with King about joining the project. The goals of the film are to help increase visibility and create more opportunities for girls and women to play, which resonated with King.
“Baseball was my first true love, but I never got the chance to play because I was a girl. It is my hope that See Her Be Her will encourage girls and women to pursue their dreams no matter what others say is possible and that one day soon, women once again have a league of their own,” King stated.
See Her Be Her will premiere on MLB Network between Games 2 and 3 of the World Series. Grassroots Baseball is also working on streaming options to ensure millions of girls around the globe have a chance to watch the film and get inspired by the stories shared.
