The Bravos de Margarita of the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional top this week’s World Baseball Network Winter Ball poll.
The poll, voted on by World Baseball Network writers who cover the winter leagues, ranks the top 10 teams across the four leagues that will send their individual champions to the 2025 Caribbean Series in Mexicali, Mexico in February.
Margarita, at 22-14 in the LVBP, claimed two first-place votes and 45 points, two points ahead of the Tomateros de Culiacan (26-13) of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico, who also claimed two first-place votes but mustered a total of 43 points.
The Leones del Escogido (19-11) of LIDOM claimed the other first-place vote and totaled 41 points, good for third place in this week’s poll.
Staying in fourth were the Caneros de Los Mochis (23-16) of the LAMP, who received 30 points.
Rising from sixth to fifth this week are the Indios de Mayaguez of the LBPRC in Puerto Rico. The Indios lead the league at 10-2 and have won nine of their last 10 games.
The Estrellas Orientales (18-13) got 24 votes, good for sixth place, while their LIDOM rival, the Tigres del Licey (15-14), were ninth in this week’s poll with nine votes.
Venezuela’s Aguilas del Zulia (18-16) received 20 votes and were seventh for the second consecutive week.
Entering the poll this week were the LAMP’s Algodoneros de Guasave (21-18) and defending champion Naranjeros de Hermosillo (21-18). Guasave received 13 points and was eighth in the poll, while the Naranjeros snuck in to 10th with seven points.
