Cardinals No. 1 Prospect Jordan Walker Makes Major League Roster For Opening Day

The St. Louis Cardinals announced outfielder and third basemen Jordan Walker made the Opening Day roster for the 2023 Major League Baseball Season. 

Walker during Spring Training hit .277 in 20 games through 67 plate appearances and recorded 18 hits, five doubles, three home runs, and drove in nine runs.

Jordan Walker is the number one prospect in the Cardinals organization according MLB.com.  Walker was drafted out of Decatur High School in Georgia from the 2020 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft with the 21st overall pick and signed for $2.9 million after committing to Duke University.  

Walker played in the Arizona Fall League last offseason, where in 21 games with 90 plate appearances he hit .286, recorded 22 hits, six doubles, five home runs, drew ten walks, and drove in 16 runs. 

Walker last season played in 119 games for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals with 536 plate appearances, batting .306 with 141 hits, 31 doubles, 19 home runs, drew 58 walks, swiped 22 stolen bases and had 68 RBI. 

During 2021 season, Walker split time between Low-A Palm Beach and High-A Peoria, playing in 82 games with 366 plate appearances, hitting .317 with 103 hits, 25 doubles, 14 home runs, drawing 33 walks, swiping 14 stolen bases, and driving in 48 runs. 

Walker was nominated twice as MiLB.com Organization All-Star in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system in 2021 and 2022. Walker also was selected for the Futures Game in 2022 and listed as an Arizona Fall League Rising Star with the Salt River Rafters in 2022.  

Walker was nominated as the Texas League Postseason All-Star in 2022 and Texas League Top Major League Baseball Prospect in 2022 while playing for the Springfield Cardinals.  

The St. Louis Cardinals will open up at home for the 2023 Major League Baseball season against the Toronto Blue Jays at 4:10 p.m. EDT.
