According to Daryl Van Schouwen, the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago White Sox beat writer, on April 21, the organization selected the contract of infielder Danny Mendick, who will join the team in Minnesota on April 22.
Mendick, 30, was born in Rochester, N.Y., and played five seasons in Major League Baseball, with the White Sox from 2019-22 and the New York Mets in 2023.
This season, Mendick started in Triple-A Charlotte and played in 19 games, hitting .317 with 67 plate appearances, smacking 19 hits, six doubles, eight home runs, 20 RBI, two stolen bases, six walks, and 15 strikeouts before being called up to the White Sox.
In 2024, he started seven games at second base and nine games at third base with Triple-A Charlotte.
Mendick played in 24 games during spring training and batted .220 with 44 plate appearances, ripping nine hits, two doubles, one home run, four RBI, three walks, and 11 strikeouts.
In his five seasons in the MLB, Mendick has a lifetime average of .242 playing in 186 games with 515 plate appearances with 114 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 49 RBI, two stolen bases, 36 walks, 116 strikeouts, and a .652 OPS.
Cuban right-handed pitcher Josimar Cousin has cleared waivers from the Chicago White Sox and was outrighted to Double-A Birmingham, the organization reported on April 20.
Cousin, 26, was born in La Habana, Cuba, and played one season in the minors with the White Sox in 2023.
Cousin was invited to big league camp with the White Sox and played in two games out of the bullpen during spring training. He posted a 1-0 record with a 2.70 ERA, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, one home run, three walks, and five strikeouts before he was designated for assignment on April 16.
Last offseason in the Arizona Fall League with the Glendale Desert Dogs, Cousin appeared in six games and four starts, posting an 8.62 ERA with a 0-2 record throwing 15.2 innings, allowing 25 hits, 15 earned runs, six home runs, five walks, and 12 strikeouts.
During the 2023 regular season, Cousin spent time between all three levels at the Arizona Complex Level, High-A Winston-Salem, and Double-A Birmingham. He went 2-2 between all three levels and posted a 5.56 ERA in 15 starts, throwing 55 innings, allowing 62 hits, 34 earned runs, seven home runs, 15 walks, 47 strikeouts, and a 1.400 WHIP.
During his six seasons in Cuba, Cousin posted a 23-33 record with a 4.80 ERA in 88 appearances and 68 starts, recording one save. He threw 419.2 innings, allowing 486 hits, 224 earned runs, 33 home runs, 176 walks, 283 strikeouts, and a 1.577 WHIP before signing with the White Sox as an international free agent on May 15, 2023.
