In 2024, the Tennessee Volunteers brought home their first national championship in program history. Heading into 2025, plenty of teams could bring home their program’s first national championship. Here is a list of some teams who can do it.
This has been due for a while now. Head coach Dave Van Horn is entering his 23rd season in Fayetteville, and he has seemingly accomplished everything except a national championship.
The Razorbacks have been to the NCAA Tournament every season except one with Van Horn at the helm.
They have been to Omaha for the College World Series seven times since Van Horn took over in 2003. This includes finishing as runner-up in 2018, when they lost to Oregon State in the national championship.
The success at Fayetteville has been constant, as the Hogs have won an average of 46 games over the last four seasons. Despite back-to-back seasons of not reaching the College World Series, best believe Arkansas will be in great contention for their first national championship in 2025.
Texas A&M came up just short of winning their first national championship in 2024 as they fell to Tennessee. However, head coach Michael Earley has all the pieces in place to have another realistic chance at bringing home the Aggies’ first championship.
Texas A&M returns possibly the best player in college baseball, Jace LaViolette, and one of the best pitchers in the country, Ryan Prager.
Plenty of key hitters from last season’s national runner-up lineup are coming back, including Caden Sorrell, Gavin Grahovac, and Kaeden Kent.
Some key transfers, such as Gavin Kash (Texas Tech) and Jamal George (Alabama State), are also coming into the lineup.
Despite the coaching change, Texas A&M has the returning and incoming talent to become one of the national championship favorites for the 2025 season.
In year two, Florida State head coach Link Jarrett returned the Seminoles to the upper echelon of college baseball. In 2024, the team finished 49-17 overall and was 17-12 in ACC play. The Seminoles made it to Omaha for the College World Series for an unprecedented 24th time in their programs’ history.
Despite going to Omaha 24 times, Florida State has yet to win a national championship. However, if you’re a Seminole fan, there is no reason to fret; the talent is there for another big run in 2025.
Florida State lost key contributors in the lineup to the draft, including Cam Smith and James Tibbs III. However, plenty of talent is returning, such as Jaxon West, Max Williams, Alex Lodise, etc.
Of course, Florida State is also anchored by Golden Spikes hopeful and arguably the best pitcher in all of college baseball, Jamie Arnold.
Tons of returning talent and an Omaha trip a season ago make Florida State hopeful of winning their first national championship in 2025.
With the momentum he has built, head coach Erik Bakich has Clemson on the verge of going to the College World Series.
Back-to-back 44-win seasons with a super regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium a season ago means that the Tigers are rolling, and it could be enough to roll them into the program’s first-ever national championship.
One of the best hitters in the country is returning in Cam Cannarella. He will be a monumental factor in the Tigers’ success. A big addition to the lineup in the portal will be Luke Gaffney (Purdue), who was Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2024. Andrew Ciufo and Tristan Bissetta are two key returners Clemson has from a season ago.
A foundation has been set for 2025 in Clemson. Bakich and the Tigers are gunning for the program’s first trip to the College World Series since 2010. They also could very well go beyond that and win their first national championship.
The Duke Blue Devils are another ACC team with a lot of momentum from the past few seasons. A super regional appearance in 2023 and another NCAA Tournament appearance last season is something to be hopeful about in Durham.
Not to mention, head coach Chris Pollard invoked some championship DNA by winning the ACC Tournament a year ago.
Well-regarded two-way talent Kyle Johnson returns, as does A.J. Garcia, who is coming off a great freshman season.
The talent is back, and with 79 wins in the past two seasons, Duke is poised for some big things in 2025. The program is looking to return to the College World Series and end a 63-year hiatus from Omaha. A national championship is well within their grasp if they can do that.
