Cuba: Agricultores Stay Alive with 19-5 Win

Facing elimination, Agricultores’ bats yielded a bumper crop of runs Thursday evening in a 19-5, seven-inning victory over Portuarios that will send the Cuban Elite League championship series back to Granma for a sixth game.

Osvaldo Sanchez, Yordanys Alarcon, Yosvani Alarcon, and Rafael Vinales – the Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 5 hitters for Agricultores – each scored three runs in the romp, while Vinales and Alexquemer Sanchez each contributed two home runs. Guillermo Aviles also contributed a solo home run, while six of nine Agricultores starters had a multi-hit game.

Cesar Garcia went 5.1 innings for Agricultores, allowing five runs on 11 hits, striking out one and walking none.

Portuariors starter Jose Bermudes gave up four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings pitched.

Games six and seven of the Cuban Elite League finals series are Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) at 1:30 p.m. ET at Estadio Martires de Barbados in Granma. The winner of the series will represent Cuba at the 2023 Caribbean Series in Venezuela from February 2-10.
