Cuban Players Eligible for MLB Free Agency in 2025

On Tuesday, many players from Cuba were deemed free agents for Major League Baseball by the commissioner’s office.

The list of players includes left-handed pitchers Naykel Cruz and Renyi Membrives, two catchers, Donovan Acosta and John Rodriguez, and an infielder Xian Vega.

Cruz was on Cuba’s 2023 World Baseball Classic team. During the event, he pitched 0.2 innings.

Vega has spent time playing for Elefantes de Cienfuegos in the Cuban National Series. He had a .277 batting average this past season and hit 14 doubles.

MLB free agency began in November, and the international signing period will start on Jan. 15, 2025. The minimum age for foreign players to sign is 16, and both Rodriguez and Acosta are currently 16 years old.
