Dallas Baptist Patriots Sweep Season Series with Oklahoma Sooners in Dominant Fashion

On Tuesday, the Dallas Baptist Patriots defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 9-1 in L. Dale Mitchell Park. The win moved their overall record to 21-11 this season, and the Pats won both games against Oklahoma.

In fact, in the two wins over the Sooners, Dallas Baptist outscored them 21-1. The team had 25 hits in those two games combined.

In Tuesday’s game, Dallas Baptist did a great job keeping some of the big names in Oklahoma’s lineup quiet. Jason Walk, Trey Gambill, Dayton Tockey, and Sam Christiansen had no hits in the game. Those same four players struck out five times.

The Dallas Baptist pitching staff threw 10 combined strikeouts. Starting pitcher Jerrod Jenkins had four of those as he was credited for the win. His record moved to 4-0 this season.

These wins will go a long way for head coach Dan Heefner’s team. The Patriots are off to a mediocre start in C-USA play with a 5-4 record. Two wins over an SEC opponent will help Dallas Baptist resume when the NCAA makes selections for the tournament.

Up Next

These two wins over Oklahoma are not the only opportunities for the Patriots to get some big, resume-building victories in midweek matchups. Dallas Baptist plays Oklahoma State again in Stillwater after already beating them on March 11 at Horner Ballpark.

They also play the Texas Christian Horned Frogs in a midweek game. TCU is 25-9 overall this season and sits third in the Big 12 standings.

Before those two big midweek matchups, Dallas Baptist has a three-game, weekend series against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at Jim Case Stadium in Alabama.

The first pitch for the game on Friday, April 11, is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT.
