Dallas Keuchel Signs With Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan

Former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel has signed with the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPB. The left-handed starting pitcher started four games for the Milwaukee Brewers this season and elected free agency after being designated for assignment.

Keuchel is 36 years old and not the same pitcher he was in Houston when he won the American League Cy Young in 2015. Since 2019, Keuchel has pitched for six different teams. He started 2024 in the minor leagues for the Seattle Mariners but was traded to the Brewers in exchange for cash considerations. He filled in for an injury-riddled starting rotation and started four games. He had a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings with 11 strikeouts.

He was designated for assignment on July 14 when the Brewers selected Joel Kuhnel’s contract from Triple-A and elected free agency four days later.

On July 30, it was announced that the Lotte Marines of the NPB signed Keuchel for the remainder of the season. The Marines are 47-39 and second in the Pacific League. Keuchel will look to be an addition to their rotation as a sinker-focused pitcher who generates a lot of ground balls.
