Eloy Jimenez Traded to Orioles at the Buzzer

Dominican outfielder and designated hitter Eloy Jimenez was just traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Baltimore Orioles as a salary dump by the White Sox. The White Sox will be receiving a prospect in return.

Jimenez made his Major League Debut with the White Sox in 2019 and played in 122 games, the most in his career due to injuries that have happened to him recently. During his rookie season, Jimenez batted .267/.513/828 with 31 home runs, which was a successful start for him, which he hopes to continue into 2020. He also was fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting, which made his expectations even higher.

2020 would be the best year for Jimenez, as even in the shortened season, he played 55 games, batting .296/.559/.891 with 14 home runs. 2021 was when he also won a Silver Slugger, which was a big reason why the White Sox were in the playoff hunt during his peak years.

Unfortunately, Jimenez would only play in 55 games in 2021 due to injuries during the first half of the season that kept him out of action. However, even in a declining year for Jimenez, he still contributed to the team, leading them to the playoffs again and even helping the White Sox win the AL Central.

Jimenez had a surprisingly great year in 2022, even when the White Sox only finished at 81-81. He batted .295/.500/.858 with 16 home runs but did not receive any awards because he was injured again at the beginning of that season.

Things would get better for staying on the field in 2023, but his contribution took a massive hit as he only batted .272/.441/.758 with 18 home runs, which was not bad, but for what he has done in the past, was surprising from him.

Finally, in 2024, Jimenez has played in 65 games, batting .270/.469/.790 with five home runs. If the 27-year-old stays healthy, he can provide some power to an already great Orioles lineup. However, he would have to play mostly at DH due to his health.
