Outfielder Felix Perez is seeking a return to Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVPB). Francys Romero reports he is in talks with the Leones del Caracas, a team he is very close with.
Perez, 39, was born in Cuba and has played in several leagues throughout his 18-year career but has never reached the MLB. Perez is the all-time leader in home runs (68) and RBIs (261) in the winter league.
Growing up in Cuba, he first signed with the Cincinnati Reds for the 2010 season. Perez reached as high as Triple-A in the Reds organization, where he was released after the 2014 season.
Since 2015, Perez has been playing in Liga de Béisbol Mexicana (LMB) with the Sultanes de Monterrey, Bravos de Leon, Toros de Tijuana, and just this past season with the Olmecas de Tabasco. In 44 games this season, Perez hit .372, tallying six home runs and 25 RBIs and striking out only 17 times in 121 at-bats.
Perez also made a brief appearance in the NPB in 2016 with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Being about eight years older than the average competition in most leagues Perez will play in; we will see if this could potentially be his final season in baseball. The Cuban slugger will turn 40 years old this November.
