On Tuesday, it was announced that the Florida Gators second baseman Cade Kurland would miss the remainder of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. Head coach Kevin O’Sullivan announced that the junior from Tampa will be undergoing season-ending surgery.
Kurland suffered the injury during Florida’s weekend series against the Miami Hurricanes back at the beginning of March. He has played through the injury since that point.
This season, the second baseman had a .316 batting average, a .490 on-base percentage, and 15 RBI. He was one of Florida’s best offensive players and was having the best season of his career in Gainesville.
The Gators have been injury-plagued for a lot of this season. Starting pitchers Liam Peterson and Pierce Coppola have been sidelined for parts of this season. Kurland becomes the third player on Florida’s roster to be sidelined for the season because of an injury joining outfielder Kyle Jones and reliever Frank Menendez.
There are many ways the Gators can go about replacing Kurland in the infield. Landon Stripling has experience in the infield along with Justin Nadeau. Both of those players have been used in utility roles this season.
Deeper on Florida’s roster is freshman Kolt Meyers who can play on the infield. He was a top 25 player in the state of Florida from St. Augustine in the 2024 high school class.
Up Next – Florida will host the Vanderbilt Commodores in a three-game weekend series at Condron Family Ballpark. The first pitch for the game on Friday, April 4, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EDT.
