Yodelkis Quevedo is a growing baseball talent out of Hialeah, Fla. He spends time playing for Mater Academy and the San Diego Padres scout team.
Quevedo has roots outside the United States. The high school prospect was born in Cuba and discussed the country with World Baseball Network.
“It is the greatest place…I came to the United States when I was seven, which was a hard change. In Cuba, I always liked to play soccer. I never really played baseball like that. When I came to the United States, I told my parents I wanted to play baseball.”
He also talked about Luis Robert being his favorite player from Cuba.
“My favorite player from there is Luis Robert…The way he hits the ball is easy and fluid, and he hits it super hard and far.”
Quevedo also talked about how the Padres scout team and Mater Academy have improved his game.
“They [Padres organization] have helped me grow a lot as a person and a player. They have me playing every part of the field…They help me grow a lot and get me better every day.”
Quevedo also went into different parts of his game he is focusing on as his high school career begins to come to an end.
“My goal is to hit for more power. So that way, people are like, “you know, he’s really like that.”
Then, we discussed what made Florida State the place for him for his college baseball career.
“The coaches are super amazing. It was like home to me. I visited with my parents and went around the whole school, and really loved it. It’s close to home, the field is beautiful, and the facilities are amazing. The fans are amazing. It is one of the best fan bases in college baseball.”
Quevedo is a rising talent in baseball who is putting personnel across the sport on notice with his game. He will be a player to watch as his high school career comes to an end, and he heads to Tallahassee to play for the Florida State Seminoles.
