Former Miami Marlins Left-Handed Pitcher Daniel Castano Signed To NC Dinos For 2024 KBO Regular Season

Former Miami Marlins left-handed pitcher Daniel Castano signed to the NC Dinos for the 2024 Korean Baseball Organization regular season with a $850,000 1-year contract, Yoo Jee-ho of Yonhap News Agency English-South Korea news platform reported on Wednesday.

Castano will earn $520,000 in salary, $130,000 in signing bonus and a maximum $200,000 in incentives from his 1-year contract. 

Castano, 29, was born in Orlando, FL has played in Major League Baseball for four seasons with the Marlins and elected free agency on October 10. 

Castano has a 2-7 record in his four seasons with the Marlins and posted a 4.47 ERA throwing 88.2 innings in 24 appearances and 17 starts allowing 101 hits, 44 earned runs, 13 home runs, 31 walks, 41 strikeouts, and a 1.489 WHIP. 

In 2023, Castano played between the Rookie Complex Level, Triple-A Jacksonville, and the Marlins throwing 63.2 innings with a 5-2 record alongside a 4.66 ERA including 19 appearances and nine starts allowing 56 hits, 33 earned runs, 10 home runs, 28 walks, 60 strikeouts and a 1.319 WHIP. 

The Marlins selected Castano’s contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on September 10 prior to him being designated for assignment on September 12. On September 14, the Marlins outrighted Castano to Triple-A Jacksonville where he finished the remainder of the 2023 regular season. 

Castano was drafted in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round after his junior season at Baylor University and signed on June 15, 2016 prior to being transferred to Rookie-Level Johnson City in his first professional season. 

Castano was traded to the Marlins from the Cardinals with Marcel Ozuna for Magneuris Sierra, Sandy Alcantara and Zac Gallen on December 14, 2017. 

Castano has played in three seasons with Triple-A Jacksonville from 2021-23 and has posted a 15-4 record including a 4.24 ERA in 38 appearances and 29 starts. He threw 174 innings allowing 157 hits, 82 earned runs, 36 home runs, 53 walks, 150 strikeouts, and a 1.207 WHIP. 

The 2024 KBO regular season will start on March 23. None of the 10 teams in the league have yet to announce their regular season schedule. All 10 teams will report to training camp during the middle of January.
