It’s a strange night to be a New York sports fan. The Knicks host Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. The Yankees already took care of business out of town, beating the Guardians 8–4 behind Carlos Rodón this afternoon. The skies over Queens are gray. And at Citi Field, the hottest young team in baseball is going for the series win over a Mets club that looked completely flat Tuesday night.
Our pick for game of the night: Cardinals at Mets — especially if you can find yourself a little cohort of Knicks fans in the stands, phones out, living both games at once.
⚾ Game of the Night: Cardinals at Mets
- Time: 7:10 PM ET, Citi Field
- Channel: SNY (Mets) / Cardinals.TV (St. Louis)
- On the mound: Andre Pallante (6–4, 3.96 ERA) vs. Austin Warren (1–2, 2.01 ERA)
- Why it’s the pick: The Cardinals (36–28) have won five straight, and Tuesday’s 7–0 demolition showed exactly why this youth movement is one of baseball’s best stories. Rookie JJ Wetherholt delivered the big blow, Alec Burleson homered to push his hitting streak to nine games, and Nathan Church marked his return from the injured list with three hits and a spinning basket catch in center that erased the Mets’ only real threat. The Mets (29–37) ran into double plays and never built a thing. St. Louis goes for the series tonight — and with half of Queens staying home for the Knicks, the seats are there for the taking.

NBA Finals Game 4, Spurs at Knicks, tips at 8:30 PM ET on ABC. New York leads the series 2–1 after San Antonio stole Game 3 at MSG. Here’s the math: first pitch in Queens is 7:10. If Pallante works fast, you’re in the fifth inning at tipoff — one eye on the field, one on the phone, surrounded by everyone else doing the same thing.

And if you make it home from Citi Field in time, flip to the late one: Brewers at Athletics, from Las Vegas Ballpark, where the A’s have hit 12 home runs in the first two games of this series — tying a franchise record for a two-game span that had stood since 1996.

Rookie Henry Bolte’s first career homer on Tuesday nearly left the stadium entirely. The ball is flying in the desert, and the 9:05 PM ET start means the fireworks will still be going when you walk in the door. (BREW / NBCSCA)
