Georgia Bulldogs Emerging as Contenders in SEC

After a 17-2 win over the Florida Gators on March 22, the Georgia Bulldogs moved to 23-2 overall this season. They have started SEC play with two series wins against not only Florida, but also the Kentucky Wildcats

In Saturday’s game in Gainesville, the Bulldogs homered five times. Robbie Burnett, Ben Hudson, Christian Adams, Kolby Branch, and Devin Obee all hit long balls against the Gators.

This emphasis on home runs is a characteristic of this Georgia team. Their home run total is 64 as a team in 2025. This is at the top of the country along with teams like Tennessee and East Tennessee State.

On top of that, Georgia got great pitching out of Brian Curley on Saturday. During his first start of the season on Saturday, Curley went five innings and struck out five Florida hitters. He gave up just two hits and allowed no runs. Head coach Wes Johnson has normally played him in the closer role.

The Bulldogs’ weekend rotation has been put into question as something that is holding them back. Their team’s ERA is second to last in the SEC, only Texas A&M is worse. This new option of Curley in the rotation may put Georgia on the path of contending for the SEC and national championship. It got them an impressive road series win in conference play.

Georgia has been excellent at both home in Foley Field and on the road. They have only one loss at home and on the road this season.

It is not as if Georgia is better in a certain ballpark, they have been good everywhere they have played.

Keep a close eye on the Bulldogs, they have entered the contender conversation in college baseball thanks to this big series win in Condron Family Ballpark.
