On Sunday, May 31, Georgia’s Tre Phelps was ejected in the Athens regional final against the Liberty Flames. The Bulldogs won the game by a score of 6-1 and advanced to a super regional.
The result of Phelps’ ejection will be a one-game suspension in next weekend’s Athens super regional. The Georgia Bulldogs do not have the opprotunity to appeal that suspension.
In the sixth inning, Phelps hit a two-run home run to give Georgia a 2-1 lead. During his trot around the bases, Phelps seemed to motion or say something to the Liberty dugout. This resulted in his ejection.
Georgia head coach Wes Johnson was also ejected after arguing with the umpires right after Phelps crossed home plate and was thrown out of the game. Johnson will serve no further penalty after the Liberty game on Sunday. Thus, he will not be suspended for the Athens super regional and will be able to coach his team from the dugout.

What Liberty head coach Bradley LeCroy said regarding the ejection
Both head coaches of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Liberty Flames were asked about what happened regarding Phelps’ ejection.
Liberty head coach Bradley LeCroy had this to say regarding Phelps and what ensued on his two-run home run.
“He [Phelps] made remarks to our dugout,” said LeCroy. “At the end of the day, I’m going to protect our guys…The umpires can go back and review it or write a report. I’m not taking the blame for him getting ejected.”
LeCroy was asked what Phelps said to the Liberty dugout, to which he responded: “I’m not sure, 3,633 people were yelling at the top of their lungs…It obviously was not good.”
Allegedly, Phelps’ parents were sitting above the Liberty dugout in the stands. A comment in the postgame press conference was made that Phelps was motioning to his parents to celebrate.
LeCroy responded to this comment.
“I do not know if they were there,” LeCroy said.
Phelps in 2026 with the Bulldogs
Phelps has a .384 batting average in 2026 with Georgia. He also has 93 hits, 22 home runs, and 69 RBIs this season. With an on-base percentage of .500, he is putting together the best season of his career in a Georgia uniform.
Phelps was named first-team All-SEC this season alongside his teammates Rylan Lujo and Daniel Jackson.
Phelps has been great defensively this season as well. He was a part of the SEC’s All-Defensive team this college baseball season.
Up next for Georgia
The Georgia Bulldogs are heading to a super regional for the second time in three years. They will host the super regional at Foley Field and play the winner of the Starkville regional final between the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
