The first day of August gave fans a small slate with lots of home runs to go around. Here’s everything you missed from yesterday in the MLB.
Guardians 10 Orioles 3
Cleveland hit three home runs to take game one of the four-game series between two of the AL division leaders. The Guardians have won four straight and sit atop the MLB with 66 wins. Jose Ramirez homered in the seventh inning for his third consecutive game with a home run.
Royals 7 Tigers 1
Vinnie Pasquantino homered twice, and Bobby Witt added one of his own to help the Royals win their fourth straight and hand Detroit their fourth loss in a row. All-Star Seth Lugo allowed one run on four hits in eight innings. Kansas City sits in the second wildcard spot in the AL.
Braves 4 Marlins 2
The Braves won their fifth game in the last six thanks to three home runs that drove in all of the runs for Atlanta. The Braves control the top wildcard spot in the NL with a seven-game home stand looming. Atlanta is 16-4 in their last 20 games at Truist Park.
Cubs 5 Cardinals 4
Chicago scored three runs in the ninth, which was capped off by a pinch-hit walk-off double from Mike Tauchman. Shota Imanaga allowed four runs and struck out seven in six and two-thirds. The Cubs took game one of a four-game series against their rival, who finds themselves in a battle for a wildcard position.
The Rockies won the final game of the series with a game-tying home run from Jake Cave in the ninth before Sam Hilliard drove in the winning run on a sac fly in the tenth. Colorado has won three out of four series since returning from the All-Star break.
