With the new year underway, there are many exciting prospects that are knocking on the door and getting closer to making their MLB debuts. Ahead of this 2025 season, the team here at World Baseball Network put together a list of one prospect from each MLB team that could have an impact on their respective teams.
Orioles: C/1B Samuel Basallo
The Orioles currently have catcher Adley Rutschman, along with signing Dominican backstop Gary Sanchez to a one-year deal earlier this offseason. Basallo is currently ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 13 prospect on the Top 100 and the Orioles number one prospect. The 20-year-old was born in the Dominican Republic and reached Triple-A in his third professional season. Between Double-A and Triple-A, Basallo played in 127 games, hitting 19 home runs and 55 RBIs, hitting for a .278 average.
Red Sox: SP Luis Perales
As the Red Sox look to sharpen their rotation, they have options in their farm system. Venezuelan right-handed pitcher Luis Perales was recently added to the Red Sox 40-man roster, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. Perales is the Red Sox seventh-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. At 21 years old, he pitched between High-A and Double-A in 2024, going 2-2 in nine starts, recording a 2.94 ERA in 33.2 innings, striking out 56 batters while walking 12.
Yankees: OF Jasson Dominguez
With Alex Verdugo hitting free agency, the starting left field job is open, and Jasson Dominguez has his name written all over it. One of the most hyped international free agent signings, Dominguez is healthy after Tommy John surgery would sideline him until mid-2024. While rehabbing in the minors, Dominguez blasted 11 home runs and 35 RBIs before being recalled by the Yankees late in the season. He only saw 18 games in 2024 with the Yankees, hitting two home runs and driving in four RBIs, hitting .179. With the addition of Cody Bellinger to handle duties in center and Aaron Judge shifting to right, it will be up to the Dominican native to try and win the job in Spring Training.
Rays: SP Yoniel Curet
Signed by the Rays in 2019 out of the Dominican Republic, 22-year-old Yoniel Curet could be a pitcher who could potentially have an impact with the Rays in 2025. The Rays had added him to their 40-man roster before the 2024 season. He spent 2024 pitching between High-A and Double-A, throwing to a 9-7 record, posting a 2.95 ERA, and striking out 159 batters in 119 innings of work. He impressed in his five starts at the Double-A level, with a 4-0 record and a 1.75 ERA, while striking out 37 batters in 25.2 innings.
Blue Jays: SP Adam Macko
One of the more unique stories and looking to make an impact with the Blue Jays in 2025 is starting pitcher Adam Macko. Macko was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, and if he were to debut in 2025, he would become the fourth player from Slovakia to reach the majors. The 24-year-old southpaw was added to Toronto’s 40-man roster this offseason, as he pitched across three levels in 2024, ending his season in Triple-A. In 20 starts, Macko went 5-5 with a 4.63 ERA, pitching in 93.1 innings and striking out 105 batters while walking 35.
