Jackson Chourio is the youngest player in Major League Baseball, but that has not stopped him from having a historic season. On September 12, Chourio hit his 20th home run of the season, becoming the youngest player to join the 20-20 club.

Chourio joins Vada Pinson and Mike Trout as the only players to join the club in their age-20 seasons. Pinson achieved it in 1959, while Trout did it in 2012. Chourio is 20 years and 185 days old, making him the youngest to join the club. Pinson and Trout turned 21 before reaching the mark, but they were 20 on June 30, making it their age-20 season. Chourio joins Trout as the only rookies to reach the milestone in their age-20 season.

The Milwaukee Brewers showed their great faith in Chourio when they signed him to an eight-year, $82 million contract before he had even made his debut. Chourio had a rough start to the season with a .214 batting average and just five home runs. However, the Brewers did not send Chourio down to Triple-A. Since May 22, he has been slashing .298/.353/.527 with 15 home runs. Since the All-Star Game, he has had the eighth-highest batting average in the league.

According to Bally Sports’ Sophia Minnaert, Chourio called his 20th home run before the game. When getting back into the dugout after the historic home run, he pointed to Minnaert and said, “I told you,” in Spanish.

Chourio has entered the race for National League Rookie of the Year. While he is not a shoe-in to win the award, he has just as good a case as other candidates Paul Skenes and  Jackson Merrill.
