John Garcia Belts Five Doubles in Historic High A Feat

Houston Astros prospect John Garcia just had a game that cements his name in the pro baseball history books.

Garcia, a catcher and first baseman for the Asheville Tourists, Houston’s High-A team, notched five doubles on Wednesday night in a win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. This feat has yet to be done by either an MLB or minor league player.

Though minor league stats only date back to 2005, there is no record of this being done.

“I want to be in the big leagues, so when I heard about accomplishing something that’s never been done in the Majors, it felt really good,” Garcia said.

The record night makes it 12 doubles on the year for the Grambling State product. Through 38 games, Garcia is batting .279 with a .367 OPS.

Garcia, who does not fall within the top 30 Astros prospects, will look to build off this momentum and climb up the farm system ranks.
