Tomateros de Culiacan 2, Mayos de Navojoa 1 – Poncho Ruiz drove in Efren Navarro to score the go-ahead run with a fifth inning single. Starter Edgar Arredondo threw 5 2/3 innings for Culiacan, allowing one run on three hits, walking one and striking out two to earn the win. The win combined with Hermosillo’s loss puts the two teams in a tie atop the regular season standings, though Culiacan is six games out of first place in the second half.
Charros de Jalisco 4, Venados de Mazatlan 0 – Starter Luis Rodriguez allowed just two hits over five shutout innings, walking one and striking out five, and the Charros used six relievers who combined to allow three hits over the final four innings to shut out Mazatlan. Carlos Mendevil hit a two-run homer for Jalisco, and Michael Wielansky went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sultanes de Monterrey 4, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 3 – Edson Garcia’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth sent the Sultanes fans home happy. The Naranjeros held a 3-0 lead in the fifth after a two-run homer by Jose Cardona, but coughed it up when Donovan Casey hit a double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning.
Caneros de Los Mochis 5, Aguilas de Mexicali 2 – A two-run single by Rodolfo Amador and a two-run double by Alejandro Urias put the Caneros ahead, and the lead held. Omar Araujo allowed two runs on three hits in six innings, walking five and striking out three, and the Los Mochis bullpen allowed just one baserunner in three innings.
Algodoneros de Guasave 4, Yaquis de Obregon 3 – Obregon took a two-run lead in the top of the 12th when Allen Cordoba singled home Taiki Sekine, but Roberto Ramos answered in the bottom of the inning, hitting his seventh homer of the year, a three-run shot that sent Guasave onto the field to celebrate the win.
