The Caneros de Los Mochis announced Tuesday first baseman and outfielder Yasmany Tomas will return for the 2023-24 winter league season in Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.

Tomas played for Industrialies de La Habana during the 2023 summer season, but was left off the roster for the Cuban National Team at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. The former Arizona Diamondback played in 14 games with 61 plate appearances batted .268 recording 15 hits, five doubles, five walks, and four strikeouts with a .685 OPS, helping Industriales get to the best-of-seven Serie Nacional championship series.

Industrialies and the Federacion Cubana de Beisbol did not allow Tomas to participate and was not on the active roster during the Serie Nacional championship series, and the club was swept by Lenadores de Las Tunas.

Tomas has been on a winding road through professional baseball after being released by the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, the top affiliate of the Washington Nationals, in November 2021.

He made a mark in Mexico last winter with Caneros de Los Mochis in the LAMP, winning the LAMP MVP Award during the 2022-23 winter league season, playing in 66 games with 287 plate appearances and hitting .328 with 85 hits, 17 doubles, 10 home runs, 25 walks, and 57 RBI, helping Caneros de Los Mochis reach their third Caribbean Series and fourth league championship title.

During Tomas’s Major League career, he batted .266 with 48 home runs and 163 RBI with the Diamondbacks.

Tomas hit the radar for Major League Baseball scouts during the 2013 World Baseball Classic, where he went 6-for-16, batting .375 with two home runs, five RBI, and one walk in six games for Cuba. He left the island in 2014, and the same year, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks for six years and $68.5 million.

The Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico 2023-24 regular season will begin on October 13.

The Caneros de Los Mochis will open up the season at home against the Mayos de Navojoa at 10:30 p.m. EDT at Chevron Park on October 13.

All Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico regular season games will be streamed on https://www.extrabase.tv/home with a paid subscription through the final out of their championship series in January, right before the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami at loanDepot Park.
