Four games into the second half of the 2024-25 Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico season, four teams — Los Mochis, Mexicali, Guasave, and Obregon — are tied for first at 3-1.

While four games doesn’t sound like a lot, remember that the second half of the season is only 34 games long, so about 12.5% of the second half has already been played. Teams that fall behind early will have difficulty gaining ground with so few games to play.

For teams that finished at or near the top of the league in the first half, this isn’t so much of a problem. But for the Venados de Mazatlan and Sultanes de Monterrey, who finished the first half in ninth and 10th place at 14-20 and 12-22 respectively, a continued bad start will doom their chances at the playoffs. Both teams are 1-3 thus far in the second half, and will likely need to finish in fifth place or higher to have a chance at making the playoffs.

Time to start winning.

Caneros de Los Mochis 3, Algodoneros de Guasave 1 – Marco Jaime and Eric Filia each had RBI singles for Los Mochis, which is 3-1 to start the second half. Caneros starter Darel Torres improved to 8-0 on the season after throwing five shutout innings, allowing two hits, three walks, and striking out six. Narciso Crook drove in Guasave’s lone run with a double to left in the eighth inning.

Sultanes de Monterrey 8, Tomateros de Culiacan 4 – The Sultanes out-homered Culiacan to get their first win of the second half. Riley Unroe hit a three-run homer in the first for Monterrey, Donovan Casey added a two-run shot in the third, and Jose Guadalupe Chavez added a solo homer in the ninth. Culiacan (1-3) got a solo homer from Rudy Martin and a three-run homer from Joey Meneses in the sixth.

Charros de Jalisco 2, Yaquis de Obregon 1 – Jose Carlos Urena’s one-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth halved the Charros’ lead, but Obregon was unable to complete the comeback. Rafael Medrano threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits and three walks for Jalisco.

Mayos de Navojoa 6, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 5 – Asael Sanchez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Navojoa, driving in Luis Suarez with a first-inning single and Matt McDermott and Missael Rivera with a second-inning double.

Aguilas de Mexicali 4, Venados de Mazatlan 3 – Javier Salazar’s RBI single in the ninth drove in Ray-Patrick Didder with the go-ahead run as the Aguilas improved to 3-1 for the second half, putting them in a three-way tie for first place with Guasave, Los Mochis, and Obregon.
