The Naranjeros de Hermosillo unwrapped a 4-3 win over the Caneros de Los Mochis on Christmas Day.
Combined with the Charros de Jalisco’s 7-4 loss to the Venados de Mazatlan, Jalisco and Hermosillo remain tied atop the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico standings for the second half of the 2023-24 regular season.
Former Major Leaguer Aaron Altherr had a hit, an RBI, and a run scored for Hermosillo in the win.

Venados de Mazatlan 7, Charros de Jalisco 4 – First baseman Niko Vasquez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as Mazatlan topped Jalisco on Christmas Day. Ramiro Pena and Leo German each contributed a pair of base hits in the win for the Venados.

Aguilas de Mexicali 6, Sultanes de Monterrey 2 – Xorge Carrillo drove in three runs for Mexicali, including a pair with a double to left field in the top of the eighth that sent Moises Gutierrez and Leo Heras home with insurance runs.

The top eight teams in the 10-team Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico make the playoffs, based on points awarded for where each team finishes in each half of the season.
With a 13-15 record in the second half, the Sultanes de Monterrey are going to need to win their remaining five games and hope that pushes them high enough in the second half standings to overcome their last-place finish in the first half. Currently in seventh place for the second half, the Sultanes would finish the regular season in 10th place overall with 8.5 points should they finish the second half in the seventh place.
The Aguilas de Mexicali are 15-13 in the second half, good for sixth place in the second half, and still have a chance to get into the final playoff spot. Mexicali faces Monterrey on Dec. 26 and 27 and then will face first-place Hermosillo for three games to close the regular season.
