LAMP: Sultanes de Monterrey Split Doubleheader, Trade Shutouts With Mayos de Navojoa

Sultanes de Monterrey 4, Mayos de Navojoa 1 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Brandon Villareal drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the top of the second, and Donovan Casey followed with an RBI single as the Sultanes won the first game of the double dip. Zach Muckenhirn allowed four hits and three walks over five scoreless innings for Monterrey (6-14).

Mayos de Navojoa 1, Sultanes de Monterrey 0 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Agustin Ruiz drove in the the only run the Mayos would need in the bottom of the first, singling to right field to score Matt McDermott. Carlos Tavera and Charlie Hasty combined to allow just two hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings as the Mayos improved to 9-11.

Charros de Jalisco 2, Caneros de Los Mochis 0 – Tirso Ornelas and Japhet Amador had RBI singles in the top of the first, driving in the only runs of the game early for the Charros (7-13). Luis Payan allowed two hits and three weeks over six scoreless innings, and the Jalisco bullpen allowed three hits while keeping the lead secure. Los Mochis (13-7) stranded nine runners and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Tomateros de Culiacan 3, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 1 – The Tomateros (17-3) won their fourth straight, taking the lead on a Dwight Smith Jr. double in the bottom of the first and adding another in the seventh. Victor Castaneda went 6 2/3 innings for Culiacan, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out four, while Hermosillo’s Robert Stock allowed two runs on three hits, walking five and striking out five for Hermosillo.

Algodoneros de Guasave 1, Venados de Mazatlan 0 – Four shutouts in a single day! Alexis Wilson’s sixth-inning single scored Narciso Crook as the Algodoneros got back to .500 at 10-10. Mazatlan (6-14) hasn’t scored a run in 23 innings, and managed just five hits.
