LAMP: Two Streaks Snapped, Aguilas de Mexicali Gain Ground On Tomateros de Culiacan

Adios, Gerente! – The Venados de Mazatlan (5-11) fired manager Luis Carlos Rivera prior to Wednesday night’s game. Also shown the door were coaches Gilberto Sotomayor and Roberto Pérez. Rivera, who went 36-32 in his first season with Mazatlan, was replaced with J.J. Pacho, a member of the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame who twice led the Venados to a Caribbean Series title in 2005 and 2016. The club named Heber Gómez first base coach, and Gomez will work with Adán Muñoz to coach the team’s batters. Jorge Luis Loredo was named third base coach and Joe Álvarez will serve as bench coach.

Venados de Mazatlan 10, Tomateros de Culiacan 4 – Ramiro Pena went 2-for-5 with four RBIs coming on a pair of two-run singles as the Venados (5-11) ended Culiacan’s winning streak at eight games and got a win in new manager J.J. Pacho’s first game at the helm. Tomateros starter Aldo Montes allowed five runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Sultanes de Monterrey 10, Caneros de Los Mochis 9 (11 Innings) – Carter Aldrete’s two-run double in the bottom of the 11th snapped the Sultanes’ losing streak at eight games. Carlos Sepulveda went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Monterrey (5-11), and the Sultanes remain in a three-way tie for eighth place. Roel Santos went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs for Los Mochis, which sits three games back of Culiacan at 10-6 in a three-way tie for second.

Aguilas de Mexicali 3, Mayos de Navojoa 1 – Daniel Reyes went five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, a walk, and striking out three, and the Aguilas bullpen allowed one run on three hits over four innings as the Aguilas improved to 10-6 and remained in the three-way tie for second. Clay Dungan and Connor Capel each drove in runs for Mexicali with sac flies, and Norberto Obeso had an RBI single.

Algodoneros de Guasave 8, Charros de Jalisco 1 – Seven different batters drove in runs for Guasave, which got back to .500 with the win Wednesday night. Yadir Drake went 3-for-6 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Algodoneros, whose pitching staff allowed just four hits and four walks.

Yaquis de Obregon 3, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 2 – Allen Cordoba’s two-run single in the bottom of the fourth was the difference as the Yaquis improved to 8-8. Hermosillo stranded nine runners and batted 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position as they fell to 10-6, where they are in a three-way tie for second place.

Mayos de Navojoa – Deactivated LHP Denny Román, who can be activated October 31, and added RHP Esteban Bloch to the active roster.

Caneros de Los Mochis – Deactivated RHP Omar Araujo, who may be activated October 31, and added RHP Manuel Urías Gastélum to the active roster. Deactivated RHP Luis Enrique Gastélum, who may be activated October 31, and  added RHP Vicente Valenzuela to the active roster. Retroactive to October 28, deactivated OF Félix Stevens, who may be activated November 2, and added RHP Nick Struck to the active roster. Retroactive to October 21, deactivated C Mario Gómez, who may be activated October 31, and added OF Roberto Castro to the active roster.

Algodoneros de Guasave – Deactivated RHP Jesús Huerta, who may be activated November 6, and added LHP Jesús Broca to the active roster. Deactivated LHP Ian Medina, who may be activated October 31, and added LHP Vidal Sotelo added to the active roster. Deactivated EHP Geno Encina, who can be activated starting November 6, and added OF Francisco Hernández to the active roster.

Venados de Mazatlan – Fired Luis Carlos Rivera as manager, and named Juan José Pacho manager. Fired coaches Gilberto Sotomayor and Roberto Pérez. Deactivated RHP Víctor Morales, who may be activated October 31, and added RHP Fernando Burgueño takes his place on the active roster.

Charros de Jalisco – Deactivated C Jesús Córdova, who can be activated starting October 31, and added IF Daniel Castro to the active roster.

Sultanes de Monterrey – Deactivated RHP Gerardo Salas, who may be activated October 31, and added RHP Carlos Medina to the active roster. Deactivated RHP Arturo Roque, who may be activated October 31, and added RHP Ricardo Chapa to the active roster. Deactivated RHP Mario Pérez, who can be activated October 31, and IF Aldo Flores takes his place on the active roster.
