LG Twins Have Early Lead In KBO; Tuesday Games Cancelled Due To Spectator Death

The 2025 Korea Baseball Organization season is over a week old. The LG Twins are the league’s best team thus far, as they are 7-1 in their first handful of games.

Here’s everything you missed from South Korea’s top professional baseball league last week.

KBO Cancels Tuesday Games Due to Death of Spectator – A KBO fan died on Monday after undergoing surgery for a head injury she suffered at Changwon NC Park on Saturday.

According to Yoo Jee-ho of Yonhap News Agency, a woman in her 20s was struck by a piece of aluminum that fell on top of her and her sister on the third base side of the NC Dinos stadium. The deceased’s sister broke her collarbone. Yoo reported on Monday that Dinos officials said the piece of aluminum was 60 kilograms, or about 132 pounds.

The KBO canceled Sunday’s game between the Dinos and Twins, and the five games on Tuesday’s schedule were postponed to recognize the young woman’s death. Yoo reports he tried to reach out to the city of Changwon and the Dinos, but both parties declined to speak more on the subject other than sending their condolences.

Patrick Wisdom Swinging a Hot Bat for Kia Tigers – Former Major League Baseball first baseman Patrick Wisdom, who plays first base this season with the Tigers, went three straight games with a home run in the Tigers’ recent series against the Hanwha Eagles.

Through Wisdom’s first eight KBO games, the former St. Louis Cardinal, Texas Ranger, and Chicago Cub hit .292 with four home runs and a 1.304 OPS. He struggled during the preseason, going 2-for-13 in his first five games.

“I think he [Wisdom] was trying to see pitches early on because he had to figure out what types of pitches KBO pitchers were throwing. And it’s never easy for anyone to start hitting right away in a new league,” Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho told reporters at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on March 14, per Korea JoongAng Daily.

Heroes Skip Rookie Pitcher’s Scheduled Start – The Kiwoom Heroes announced starting pitcher Yoon Hyun would start Wednesday’s game against the Doosan Bears instead of rookie Jung Hyun-woo, who threw 122 pitches in his KBO debut last Wednesday in a 17-10 win against the Tigers.

Jung, 18, was the first overall pick in the 2024 KBO Draft. He threw his 122 pitches in just five innings, so the Heroes are likely giving the left-hander extra rest before his next outing. Korea JoongAng Daily reports Jung’s appearance against the Tigers was the second most pitches thrown by rookie drafted out of high school in KBO history. Jung allowed four earned runs and walked seven in the start.

“He does not have any health-related problems, and he will stay on the active roster,” a Heroes official told Korea JoongAng Daily about Jung’s potential injury status.

KBO Standings as of Wednesday, April 2
1. LG Twins (7-1)
2. Samsung Lions (6-3)
T3. KT Wiz (5-3)
T3. SSG Landers (5-3)
