The LIDOM free agency is well underway. The October-January months provide players ample opportunity against quality opponents.
JP Martinez, Ismael Munguia, and Elian Leyva are the newest additions to that cycle.
For Martinez, the 28-year-old slashed .233/. 334/.684 over 377 at-bats with the Braves Triple-A Gwinnett. Martinez has 11 hits in 55 at-bats at the MLB level with a home run.
Muniguia, on the other hand, projects to join Estrellas as an everyday outfielder who enjoyed a successful season with 18 stolen bases and a .805 OPS at the AA and AAA levels in the Giants’ organization. Munguia joins an Estrellas outfield that includes Raimel Tapia, who was seen at practices earlier this week.
Adding a veteran presence to the Leones del Escogido bullpen is Elian Leyva, who last appeared in minor league games in 2019. Born in Havana, Leyva appeared in the World Baseball Classic for Team Cuba and earned a start, striking out four batters and allowing just one hit over 2.1 innings against Chinese Taipei.
The additions of experienced MLB-caliber bats to the Estrellas and Leyva, a polished arm to the Leones del Escogido, look to help their respective teams improve.
