Jose Mosquera, who has managed the Colombian national team to a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, and was the bench coach for Colombia in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, will manage the Yaquis de Obregon in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico this winter.
He also led the Caimanes de Barranquilla of the Liga de Beisbol Profesional de Colombia to the 2022 Caribbean Series title in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Mosquera, 39, has managed in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system since 2021, managing affiliates in the Dominican Summer League and Florida Complex League before taking the reins of the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League this season.
“We are going to work every day with passion, commitment and professionalism to build a team that makes you proud and that fights for the championship,” Mosquera said in a team-issued press release.
Along with Mosquera serving as manager, the Yaquis named Matías Carrillo and Sergio Omar Gastélum as bench coaches, Carlos Sievers and Carlos Rivera as hitting coaches, Octavio Álvarez and Mario Mendoza as pitching coaches, Iván Cervantes as first base coach and Héctor Álvarez as third base coach for the upcoming season.
The Yaquis will open the 2026-27 LAMP season on Oct. 14 when they face the Mayos de Navojoa, who are returning to their original home city in the Mexican state of Sonora after a failed move to Tucson, Ariz.
