Alejandro Mejía of the Caliente de Durango defeated Gabriel Cancel of the Bravos de Leon 9-8 in the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol Banorte Home Run Derby at Walmart Park in Monterrey on Saturday night.
The eight first round participants were Juan Santana (Guerreros de Oaxaca), former MLB All-Star Justin Turner (Toros de Tijuana), Moisés Gómez (Pericos de Puebla), Josh Lester (Sultanes de Monterrey), Jon Singleton (Diablos Rojos), Alejandro Mejía (Caliente de Durango), Gabriel Cancel (Bravos de León) and Zoilo Almonte (Tecos de los Dos Laredos).
Gabriel Cancel of the Bravos de León and local slugger Josh Lester each hit 11 homers in the first round. Zoilo Almonte (6) and Alejandro Mejía (6) also advanced to the next round, while Juan Santana (5), Moisés Gómez (4), Jon Singleton (4), and Justin Turner (1) were eliminated.
In the second round, “the Samurai” Alejandro Mejía set the record for most home runs hit in a round in the history of the LMB Home Run Derby with 21. The previous record was 17, held by Marc Flores (final round, 2022) and David Hensley (second round, 2025). Zoilo Almonte (3), Gabriel Cancel (2) and Josh Lester (1) finished out the second round.
Alejandro Mejía (27) and Gabriel Cancel (13) advanced to the Grand Final via their total homers, while Josh Lester (12) and Zoilo Almonte (9) were eliminated.
Gabriel Cancel hit eight home runs to start off the final round. Mejía capped off the Derby with nine more home runs to claim the crown.
