Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Charros de Jalisco Win Sixth Straight Behind Cordoba’s Big Night; Singleton Homers for Diablos

Piratas de Campeche (14-22) 9, Pericos de Puebla (21-17) 5 – A troika of singles in the top of the ninth by Jesus Fabela, Felix Perez, and Roberto Urias drove in five runs for Campeche, and they withstood a rally by Puebla in the bottom of the ninth. Eight different Piratas recorded RBIs, and Perez went 3-for-5 on the evening. River Town homered in the loss for the Pericos.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (24-14) 8, Conspiradores de Queretaro (16-22) 7 – An RBI single in the bottom of the ninth by Jose Marmolejos scored Julian Ornelas to move the Diablos to 10 games over .500. Jon Singleton hit his 14th homer of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth, and Tomohiro Anraku held off the Conspiradores in the ninth after Jimmy Yacabonis blew the save in the eighth. Yurisbel Gracial hit a grand slam, his 11th homer of the year, in the third for Queretaro.

Bravos de Leon (22-16) 5, Tigres de Quintana Roo (14-22) 1 – Jermaine Palacios drove in three runs in the second inning with a double for Leon, and Marco Chicuate had an RBI single in the same frame as the Bravos easily got past the Tigres. Zac Lowther threw six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Leones de Yucatan (13-25) 3, El Aguila de Veracruz (16-22) 2 – Ronnie Williams threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Eric Filia drove in the game-winner in the three-run third for Yucatan and was tagged out at the plate trying to score. Daniel Montano hit a solo homer for Veracruz.

Charros de Jalisco (24-14) 8, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (14-24) 4 – Allen Cordoba went 5-for-5 with two runs scored, hit a two-run homer, and drove in five runs as the Charros doubled up the Algodoneros to win their sixth straight game. Jared Walsh drove in a pair of runs for Jalisco with a single in the sixth, and Jose Aguilar scored three times.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (20-18) 16, Dorados de Chihuahua (12-26) 8 – Andretty Cordero went 3-for-4 with six RBIs and Matt McDermott went 4-for-4 and scored four times as the Rieleros steamed past the hapless Dorados. Angel Reyes hit a two-run homer for Aguascalientes, and Jose Rondon and Gabriel Lino each had a pair of doubles.

Olmecas de Tabasco (24-14) 6, Guerreros de Oaxaca (24-14) 3 – The Olmecas won their fifth straight game and the ninth in their last 10, moving into a three-way tie for first place in the Zona Sur with the Guerreros and Diablos Rojos. Jose Godoy hit a two-run homer for Tabasco, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jacob Nix threw four scoreless innings for Tabasco.

Caliente de Durango (19-18) 3, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (18-20) 2 – Alejandro Mejia’s two-run homer in the sixth got Durango past Dos Laredos Saturday night. Starter Jorge Saucedo allowed two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out eight over five innings for the Caliente. Jesse Castillo and Francisco Arcia hit solo homers for the Tecos.

Saraperos de Saltillo (13-23) 5, Acereros de Monclova (20-18) 4 (11 Innings) – Saltillo won their second straight game behind an RBI single in the top of the 11th from Ramon Rios that scored Orlando Pina. Rios went 3-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI, and Luis Frias allowed one hit in the bottom of the inning but held off the Acereros to record the save. Jacob Rhinesmith hit a solo homer for Monclova.

Toros de Tijuana (25-12) 7, Sultanes de Monterrey (23-15) 6 – Hernan Perez hit a grand slam for the Toros in the fifth, Franchy Cordero added a solo homer in the sixth, and Perez drove in another run with a sac fly in the seventh as Tijuana maintained space in first place with their 25th win of the season.
