Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Conspiradores de Queretaro Win Fifth Straight; Durango Back to .500

Pericos de Puebla (28-23) 6, Toros de Tijuana (34-16) 1 – David Rodriguez went 2-for-4, driving in a pair of runs with a triple in the fourth and two more with a single in the eighth, and Luis Castro added a two-run homer in the sixth as the Pericos topped the first-place Toros in the series finale. Starter Antonio Santos allowed four hits in six shutout innings for Puebla, walking one and striking out four.

Sultanes de Monterrey (28-22) 4, Piratas de Campeche (20-28) 3 – Victor Mendoza had an RBI single and a sac fly and Wilson Garcia hit a solo homer for the Sultanes, who moved into sole possession of third place in the Zona Norte but still sit six games back of Tijuana. Manny Banuelos allowed two runs on five hits in five innings of work, walking three and striking out six for Monterrey.

Guerreros de Oaxaca (29-22) 10, Dorados de Chihuahua (20-31) (10 Innings) – Yariel Gonzalez’ second homer of the game, a 10th inning solo shot, gave the Guerreros the go-ahead run, and Pedro Castellano got an insurance run home with a hot grounder to third that Chihuahua’s Leobaldo Pina couldn’t handle. Gonzalez hit a solo homer in the sixth and went 4-for-6, while Alexi Amarista and Mel Rojas Jr. each drove in a pair of runs for Oaxaca.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (25-26) 6, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (21-30) 2 – The Conspiradores completed the sweep of Dos Laredos behind a 3-for-5 night from Alen Hanson, who hit a solo homer in the first and a two-run single in the sixth as Queretaro won its fifth straight game. Zoilo Almonte hit a solo homer, his 13th of the year, for the Tecos.

Charros de Jalisco (29-22) 9, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (32-19) 5 – Irving Lopez hit a two-run double in the fourth and Jared Walsh added a two-run homer in the six-run seventh for Jalisco, with Seby Zavala capping the big inning with a pinch hit bases-loaded triple as the Charros took the series finale from the Diablos in a rematch of last year’s Serie del Rey. Juan Carlos Gamboa went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Diablos.

Algodoneros at Union Laguna (22-29) 8, Bravos de Leon (30-21) 5 – Edward Olivares bookended the game with solo homers in the first and ninth for the Algodoneros, who hit five long balls in the game, also getting a solo shot from Adrian Tovalin and two-run homers from Eguy Rosario and Yadir Drake. The Union Laguna bullpen allowed four hits over 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and Matt Foster picke dup his ninth save of the year, striking out four over two innings. Gaige Howard had two RBIs for Leon in their five-run fifth inning.

Olmecas de Tabasco (32-19) 5, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (22-28) 4 – Seth Beer went 2-for-3, scored twice, and drove in the game-winning run with a three-run homer in the fifth, his 13th homer of the year, as Tabasco swept Aguascalientes and moved into a tie for first with the Diablos. Agustin Murillo’s RBI single in the second drove in Tabasco’s other run.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (22-27) 3, Acereros de Monclova (27-24) 1 – Phillip Ervin went 2-for-3, driving in the go-ahead run with a solo homer in the third for the Tigres, and Calvin Estrada had an RBI double in the first as Quintana Roo took the series finale. Darius Vines threw seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking none and striking out seven for the Tigres.

Caliente de Durango (25-25) 9, Leones de Yucatan (17-33) 1 – Odrisamer Despaigne allowed two hits over six scoreless innings, walking three and striking out five, and Daniel Johnson capped the blowout with a three-run homer for Durango, which got back to .500 with its fourth straight win.

Saraperos de Saltillo (18-30) 5, El Aguila de Veracruz (21-30) 2 – River Town had a two-run double in the second and Luis Guillorme drove in two runs with a single in the fourth as the Saraperos swept El Aguila.

Home Run Derby Participants Announced – Josh Lester of the Sultanes de Monterrey, Justin Turner of the Toros de Tijuana, Alejandro Mejia of the Caliente de Durango, and Zoilo Almonte of the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos will represent the Zona Norte at the LMB’s Home Run Derby during the All-Star Game festivities in Monterrey on June 27. Juan Santana of the Guerreros de Oaxaca, Jon Singleton of the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, and Gabriel Cancel and Moises Gomez of the Bravos de Leon will represent the Zona Sur.
