Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Smash Sultanes 13-3; Olmecas Top Toros In Extra Innings

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (36-20) 13, Sultanes de Monterrey (29-26) 3 – The Diablos scored seven in the first and four more in the second to put the game out of reach early. Jose Marmolejos went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the first and a two-run homer in the second, recording five RBIs in the game. Monterrey starter Manny Banuelos had a rough day, allowing seven runs on four hits and three walks without recording an out.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (26-28) 5, Dorados de Chihuahua (21-35) 1 – JJ Matijevic went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a sac fly to drive in a pair of runs for the Tigres, and starter Ernesto Borges allowed one run on two hits in five innings of work. With the loss, the Dorados are alone in the Zona Norte basement, 17 1/2 games behind first-place Tijuana and 4 1/2 games behind Aguascalientes, which is in sixth place and holds the last playoff berth.

Charros de Jalisco (31-24) 5, Guerreros de Oaxaca (31-24) 4 – Jared Walsh went 3-for-4 and his three-run homer in the seventh put the Charros ahead for good. Alex Mejia hit a solo homer for Jalisco, and Kyle Garlick had an RBI single in the first inning. Yariel Gonzalez hit his ninth homer of the year for Oaxaca, a two-run shot in the sixth.

Caliente de Durango (28-26) 11, Conspiradores de Queretaro (27-28) 7 (Game 1/Nine Innings) – Jonathan Villar and Elier Hernandez each hit two-run homers for Durango, and Daniel Johnson hit a bases-loaded triple as the Caliente won the resumption of Saturday’s suspended game. Odrisamer Despaigne threw 5 1/3 innings to begin play on Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits to claim the win for Durango.

Caliente de Durango (29-26) 5, Conspiradores de Queretaro (27-29) 0 – Starter Ian Villers threw four scoreless innings for Durango in his LMB debut, allowing five hits, and the Caliente got a three-run homer from Daniel Johnson, an RBI double from Drew Stankiewicz, and a sac fly from Estevan Florial to take the second game of the day.

El Aguila de Veracruz (24-30) 2, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (22-33) 1 (Game 1/Nine Innings) – Jake Cave’s squeeze bunt in the sixth scored Cesar Izturis Jr. to tie the game, and Austin Shenton doubled home Wynton Bernard with the go-ahead run later in the inning.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (23-34) 3, El Aguila de Veracruz (24-31) 1 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – Alejandro Flores drove in Luis De Los Santos with the go-ahead run in the fourth, and a sac fly by Jose Rodriguez gave the Tecos insurance in the sixth. Maikel Franco hit a solo homer in for Veracruz.

Bravos de Leon (30-25) at Saraperos de Saltillo (20-32) – This game was postponed due to rain and will be played as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (25-30) 7, Pericos de Puebla (29-27) 6 – A pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth, one by Andretty Cordero and another by Matthew Batten, gave the Rieleros the win Saturday night. Jose Rondon hit a two-run homer for Aguascalientes, and Ronald Medrano threw six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out four for the Rieleros.

Piratas de Campeche (24-29) 7, Acereros de Monclova (29-27) 4 – Cal Mitchell hit a solo homer in the sixth and a three-run homer in the ninth, Abraham Almonte hit a two-run homer in the seventh, and Jesus Fabela hit a solo homer as the Piratas used the long ball to hand Monclova its fourth straight loss.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (24-32) 4, Leones de Yucatan (20-35) 3 – Isan Diaz had a single, a double, and two RBIs as Union Laguna edged Yucatan. Jaime Barria allowed one run on five hits over five innings for the Algodoneros.

Olmecas de Tabasco (35-21) 5, Toros de Tijuana (38-17) 4 (12 Innings) – Jasson Atondo’s RBI single in the top of the 12th got the Olmecas past the Toros in the second game of the series between two of the LMB’s top teams. Isaac Rodriguez went 2-for-5 and drove in all four Tijuana runs, hitting a three-run homer in the seventh.
