Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Diablos Rojos Survive Late Rally By Piratas; Panas Homers To Give Bravos a Win In 11

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (2-0) 9, Piratas de Campeche (0-2) 8 – An eighth-inning grand slam by Emmanuel Avila tied the game at six apiece for Campeche, and a pair of ground outs scored one more each to give the Piratas an 8-6 lead. But the Diablos climbed back in the game when Robinson Cano hit into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, allowing one run to score, and Jose Marmolejos grounded out to second with runners at the corners to tie it up. A solo homer by Maikel Franco in the bottom of the ninth gave the Diablos their second win of the year.

Caliente de Durango 9, Dorados de Chihuahua 3 – Odrisamer Despaigne allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out five in six innings of work as Durango won its opener. David Villar went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and hit a three-run homer in the third, while Andre Lipcius hit a solo shot for the Caliente in the fourth.

Tigres de Quintana Roo 8, Olmecas de Tabasco 2 – Raico Santos went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored, three RBIs and the Tigres started the season with a win. Troy Viola and Disobel Arias each had three hits for Quintana Roo, while Carlos Castro hit a two-run homer.

Guerreros de Oaxaca 6, Pericos de Puebla 2 – Luis Miranda allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of work, and Yariel Gonzalez hit a two-run homer as the Guerreros took their first win of the season. The Oaxaca bullpen threw four scoreless innings, allowing just one walk after Miranda came out of the game.

Tecolotes de Los Dos Laredos 8, Rieleros de Aguascalientes 6 – Starting the season off with a bullpen game, the Tecos got five runs in the second behind a two-run homer from Luis de los Santos, an RBI single by Harold Ramirez, and two more scored when Aguascalientes shortstop Eduardo Torreabla threw away Zoilo Almonte’s grounder. Angel Reyes hit a solo homer for the Rieleros and Simon Muzziotti contributed a two-run shot.

Sultanes de Monterrey 12, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 10 – Victor Mendoza went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and Josh Lester went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer as the Sultanes started the season with a win. Julian Escobedo had a three-run homer for Union Laguna.

Toros de Tijuana 5, Saraperos de Saltillo 4 – With runners at first and second in the top of the ninth, Tomas Telis laid a bunt back to the mound, and Saltillo pitcher Samuel Zazueta threw to third to get the lead runner. When third baseman Alex Mejia couldn’t field the throw, Jack Mayfield scored the winner for Tijuana. Former New York Met Luis Guillorme had a two-run homer for the Toros.

El Aguila de Veracruz 4, Conspiradores de Queretaro 1 – Sebastian Elizalde had a two-run double and Carlos Franco hit a solo homer as El Aguila soared to their first win of the year. Dinelson Lamet allowed a single run on foru hits and three walks, striking out six over five innings for Veracruz.

Charros de Jalisco 9, Acereros de Monclova 0 – Kyle Garlick went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, Donny Sands hit a two-run homer in the fifth, and Allen Cordoba hit a solo homer as the Charros romped their way to a season-opening win. Starter Zac Grotz allowed two hits and walked three for the Charros over five scoreless innings.

Bravos de Leon 7, Leones de Yucatan 6 (11 Innings) – A solo homer by Connor Panas in the top of the 11th stood as the winner for Leon. The Bravos led 6-5 in the ninth, but Robert Gsellman blew the save, allowing an RBI single to Henry Ramos that tied the game. Edwin Rios had a three-run homer for Yucatan.

Leones de Yucatan – Added C Jafet Ojeda to the roster from the rookie academy.
