On Saturday, April 18, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 14-4. The game ended after eight innings by way of a run rule.
The win for North Carolina on Saturday also led to them winning the series over Georgia Tech.
This is a massive series win for the Tar Heels. Heading into the weekend, both teams were in D1 Baseball’s top 25. North Carolina was ranked third overall, and Georgia Tech was ranked second overall.
North Carolina dominates Georgia Tech in Chapel Hill on Saturday
The Tar Heels got off to a hot start during Saturday’s 14-4 win at Boshamer Stadium. North Carolina scored seven runs in the first and second innings. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets could not get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning.
Heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, North Carolina had an 11-4 lead. A big three-run frame started when Cooper Nicholson hit a home run to give the Tar Heels a 12-4 lead. It was his ninth home run of the season.
Then, Tyler Howe hit a two-run double to put North Carolina up nine runs. Carter French drew a walk with the bases loaded, and that was the run that ended the ball game.
Another fast start earned North Carolina the win on Friday
Much like Saturday’s win, the Tar Heels got off to a fast start on Friday to defeat Georgia Tech 5-2.
In the first inning, North Carolina had three runs. Macon Winslow capped off that frame for the Tar Heels with a two-run home run.
Colin Hynek joined Winslow by hitting a home run in the second inning. This gave North Carolina a 4-0 lead. Then, Erik Paulsen hit his seventh home run of the season and extended the Tar Heel lead out to 5-0.
Georgia Tech could only muster one run in the sixth inning and one run in the eighth inning.
Jason DeCaro and Caden Glauber combined for eight innings of two-run baseball. The two North Carolina pitchers combined for six strikeouts as well during Friday’s win.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will look to complete a series sweep of the second-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday, April 19.
The game is at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, and the first pitch is at 1 p.m. ET. The game can be watched on the ACC Network.
