LMB Notebook: Could Trevor Bauer Return to Diablos Rojos del Mexico?

The Diablos Rojos del Mexico are negotiating for Trevor Bauer to return to the team for the 2025 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol season, Septima Entrada reported earlier this week.

“A conversation, talking. We have to find the moments,” said Jorge del Valle, the vice president of the Diablos Rojos, according to Septima Entrada. “They know perfectly well that for Diablos, the doors are open. We have to continue. Don’t forget that last year, it was [not a done deal] until the month of March. Normally these negotiations can be delayed a little longer.”

Bauer, the 2020 Cy Young Award winner, came to the Diablos Rojos after pitching for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in Nippon Professional Baseball. He left Major League Baseball after being handed a 324-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy. The suspension was later reduced to 192 games.

As a member of the Diablos, Bauer put together an incredible 2024 season, winning the LMB’s Pitcher of the Year award after going 10-0, leading the league in strikeouts, finishing second in ERA, and setting records for most strikeouts in a game (19), most consecutive strikeouts in a game (nine), and throwing an immaculate inning, where he struck out the side on nine consecutive pitches.

In the playoffs, Bauer was equally stellar, making a relief appearance in game seven of the semifinal series against Oaxaca, a series where the Diablos trailed three games to none and came back to win the series, with Bauer throwing the final four innings, allowing two hits and a walk without allowing a run to earn the win and send the club to the Serie del Rey.

A 93-Game Season On Tap In 2025 – The LMB will play a 93-game season this year, with teams playing only four series – two at home, two on the road – against teams from the opposite division.

The season will begin on April 17 in Mexico City with the defending champion Diablos Rojos del Mexico facing the Leones de Yucatan, and the league’s other 18 teams will open the season on April 18 against divisional opponents.

The 2025 LMB All-Star Game, which will be held at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City, is scheduled for June 28, the middle day of a three-day All-Star break for the league.

The regular season will conclude on Thursday, August 7, with the playoffs starting two days later. The Serie del Rey will begin September 9, with game two the next day. After a travel day on September 11, the series will resume with games three and four on September 12-13, with game five, if necessary, on September 14. Following another travel day, games six and seven, if necessary, will be played on September 16-17.
