LMB Playoffs: Oaxaca Wins Game 7; Laredo, Monclova Take Series Openers

Guerreros de Oaxaca 3, Leones de Yucatan 0 – Starter Luis Miranda allowed three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings, and four Oaxaca relievers combined to keep Yucatan off the board in game seven, as the Guerreros took the series witha. 3-0 win in game seven.

Yariel Gonzalez hit a solo homer to left field in the top of the sixth, and Kyle Martin’s two-run homer in the eighth gave Oaxaca some breathing room.

Felix Doubront took the loss for Yucatan, allowing one run on five hits of 5 2/3 innings of work, striking out three and walking two.

Both Oaxaca and Yucatan advance to the second round, with Oaxaca facing the Conspiradores de Queretaro and Yucatan facing the Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 3, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 1 – Kennys Vargas sent Ali Castillo homewith the winning run in the sixth when he put the ball in play to center field and it was mishandled by Union Laguna’s Julian Escobedo, and Dos Laredos tacked on another in the seventh to take game one of the Serie del Zona.

Dos Laredos got stellar pitching, with starter Nate Antone allowing one run on two hits over six innings, the only blemish a solo homer by Nicolas Torres in the top of the first. Antone struck out six and walked four before yielding to Sam Bordner, who struck out one, throwing two scoreless innings. Arnaldo Hernandez struck out the side in the ninth to earn the save.

Game two is tonight at 9 p.m. EDT, with Union Laguna’s Jeremy Walker facing Dos Laredos’ Robert Stock.

Acereros de Monclova 4, Sultanes de Monterrey 2 – Balbino Fuenmayor went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored as Monclova took game one of the Serie del Zona from Monterrey.

Julio Teheran threw five innings, allowing two runs on three hits for Monterrey. Fuenmayor’s RBI single in the top of the fourth tied the game at two apiece, and then the former Kansas City royals farmhand drove in the winning run with a double to center field in teh sixth that scored Juan Perez.

Game two is tonight at 9:35 p.m. EDT, with Monclova’s Jorge Tavarez facing Monterrey’s Steven Tarpley.
