LMB Playoffs: Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos Get Five-Run Seventh, Win Game Three

Leading the series two games to none, starter Steven Tarpley threw six no-hit innings for the Sultanes de Monterrey, who shut out the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in eight of game three’s nine innings.

But the Tecos got five runs in the seventh, the only inning they weren’t kept off the board, and held Monterrey to four hits and a walk, shutting out the Sultanes 5-0 and cutting their series lead in half.

In the bottom of the seventh, Zach Muckenhirn came on to relieve Tarpley and promptly walked Yadiel Hernandez. Kennys Vargas reached on an error, and Rangel Ravelo singled to load the bases with no outs, and Muckenhirn left the game without retiring a batter in favor of Edwin Escobar.

Luis Sardinas broke the game open for Dos Laredos with a bases-clearing double to left and later scored from third on a wild pitch by Escobar. Freddy Galvis capped the big inning for the Tecos with a solo homer to left.

Emilio Vargas allowed two hits and a walk over seven shutout innings for Dos Laredos, and relievers Sam Bordner and Arnaldo Hernandez each allowed a hit while each working an inning.

Game four of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT at UniTrade Stadium in Laredo, Texas, with Tyler Viza starting for Monterrey against Junior Guerra for Dos Laredos.
