LSU’s Gavin Guidry to Miss Remainder of the 2025 Season

This week, Louisiana State University Tigers head coach Jay Johnson revealed to the media that right-handed pitcher Gavin Guidry will miss the remainder of the 2025 college baseball season.

The junior from Lake Charles, La., has not pitched at all so far this season and is suffering from a back injury. The injury popped up during the preseason and Guidry is scheduled to undergo surgery.

Johnson spoke about Guidry and what happened with his injury in the postgame press conference after LSU’s win over McNeese State on Tuesday.

Friday was kind of like a last-ditch effort after he had seen the doctor to see if we could do one more thing that was a little bit, you know, from kind of a new source, and it didn’t really take,” Johnson said.

Guidry was a talented prospect out of high school. In 2022, he won Louisiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year award and was the number one ranked player in the state according to Perfect Game. Nationally, he was a top 100 prospect in the 2022 high school class.

In 2023 and 2024, he quickly became one of the best bullpen pitchers LSU had. He has 78 career strikeouts in 53 total innings in Baton Rouge. Guidry has also recorded six saves in his career.

This is a tough blow for the Tigers, as they will be without a big-name arm for the rest of the season. However, LSU remains one of the best pitching teams in the country. With a team ERA of 3.50, they rank seventh nationally and are third in the SEC

The LSU Tigers are facing off against the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend for a three-game series at Alex Box Stadium.
