Brazil got their first win in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday as they defeated Germany 9-7.

Lucas Ramirez, the son of former Major League Baseball player Manny Ramirez, stood out with two hits in the game for Brazil, which made him one of the team’s best hitters on Monday. One of those hits was an RBI double that came in the top of the seventh inning that made it a 6-2 game in favor of Brazil.

Ramirez also got a hit in Sunday’s game against Colombia. Despite Brazil losing the matchup and getting shut out, he also recorded a hit in that contest.

Lucas’ father, Manny Ramirez, played in MLB for 19 years, spending the majority of his career the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox. He finished his career as a 12-time All-Star and a nine-time silver slugger.

He won two World Series championships in 2004 and 2007 with the Red Sox, and was the World Series MVP in the historic 2004 championship win over the St. Louis Cardinals. This win ended an 86-year championship drought that was said to be caused by the “Curse of the Bambino.”

Up Next – Lucas Ramirez and Brazil still have work to do after their first win in the WBC qualifiers in Arizona.

Their next game will be on Tuesday, Mar. 4, as they will take on China at 1 p.m. EST. The game will be at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tucson.
