The Seattle Mariners recently designated Luis F. Castillo for assignment, but have now traded him to the Orioles in exchange for cash.
A native of Fantino, Dominican Republic, Castillo last pitched in the big leagues on April 9, and had given up six runs and walked seven batters in just seven innings of work at the big league level this year. He had a 5.02 ERA in four starts in Triple-A this season as well.
Castillo started his career in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization in 2012 and has pitched all over the world since, appearing in LIDOM with the Aguilas Cibaenas, in two Caribbean Series with the Dominican Republic, and in Nippon Professional Baseball. He had a 3.01 ERA over the last two seasons in NPB between the Chiba Lotte Marines and Orix Buffaloes.
He has only made five big league appearances in his career, pitching 3 2/3 innings for the Detroit Tigers in 2022 before he found his way to the Mariners this season.
