Marwin González will retire following the end of the Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan season. González spent the majority of his career in the MLB but has been in Japan since 2023.

González spent 11 seasons in the MLB before taking his talents to Japan in 2023. González signed with the Orix Buffalos and appeared in 84 games for the team in his first year. In 2024, he dealt with injuries and appeared in just 23 games for the Buffalos.

González played for the Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees before signing in Japan. During his career, he hit 107 big-league home runs.

Born in Venezuela, the international baseball scene was nothing new to González. He has participated in the Venezuelan Winter League and Caribbean Series early in his career. However, NPB was a new challenge for González. This season, the 35-year-old has struggled to stay healthy.

González won a World Series with the Astros in 2017. González gave Astros fans a moment they would never forget when he hit a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning of Game Two in the World Series. The home run came off Kenley Jansen, and the Astros won the game in the 11th inning. He hit .252 throughout his big league career with a .709 OPS.
