Mets No. 10 Prospect, Ronny Mauricio, to Return to Game Action After Long Recovery

Mets No.10 prospect Ronny Mauricio is set to take the field as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game. Mauricio made his debut in 2023 for the Mets but tore his ACL playing in the Dominican Winter League that same year.

Last summer, his injury required a follow-up procedure that prolonged his comeback. In 2023, he had a .643 OPS and two home runs in 26 games. He is still a top-10 prospect in the Mets’ organization and could make an impact upon returning. The Mets will likely keep him in the minor leagues until he is fully ready, but his appearance in extended spring training is a step in the right direction.

Before his injury, he was dominating for the Tigres del Licey. He had a .441/.472/.706 slash line in eight games. Five of his 15 hits went for extra bases as well. Manager Carlos Mendoza spoke on his return.

“The fact that he’s now in game action is certainly a good sign,” Mendoza said, according to SNY. “We just want him to get at-bats in extended — hopefully we’ll get him some reps in the field and we’ll see how it goes from there.”

Right now, he is just taking at-bats, but he can play all over the field. Getting him on the field and running around will be the next step for him.
