The Miami Marlins called up Dominican Republic right-handed pitcher Roddery Munoz as the 27th man on the active roster for their doubleheader on the road against the Chicago Cubs on April 20, Isaac Azout of Fish On First reported on April 19. Munoz will start the second game against the Cubs on Saturday.
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Munoz played six seasons in the minors with the Atlanta Braves from 2018-23 and the Washington Nationals in 2023.
He started in two games and appeared in three for Triple-A Jacksonville, posting a 10.97 ERA with a 0-3 record. He pitched 10.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, 13 earned runs, three home runs, 12 walks, and seven strikeouts before being promoted to the Marlins.
During spring training, Munoz appeared in three games out of the bullpen and posted a 1.50 ERA, throwing six innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks, and seven strikeouts before being optioned to Jacksonville on March 11.
Munoz was traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to South Florida in exchange for cash considerations on December 20, 2023.
Munoz was claimed by the Pirates from the Nationals on December 1, 2023, before he was designated for assignment on December 15, 2023.
Last season, Munoz played with the Braves at the Rookie Complex Level, Double-A Mississippi, and Triple-A Gwinnett.
At the Rookie Complex Level, Munoz posted a 1-0 record in five and three starts with a 1.13 ERA, throwing eight innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, three walks, and ten strikeouts from his time in Florida from June 10, 2023, until Triple-A Gwinnett called him up on July 4, 2023.
With Double-A Mississippi, he started in one game when he was assigned on March 29, 2023, and posted a 0-1 record throwing four innings with a 6.75 ERA, allowing three hits, three earned runs, four walks, and three strikeouts before being assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett on April 10, 2023.
In Gwinnett, Munoz posted a 2-2 record with a 4.28 ERA, throwing 27.1 innings with 16 appearances out of the bullpen, allowing 23 hits, 13 earned runs, three home runs, 19 walks, 27 strikeouts, and a 1.537 WHIP before being designated for assignment on July 13, 2023.
He was claimed off waivers by Washington on July 17, 2023, and was assigned to Triple-A Rochester the same day.
Munoz went 1-3 in Rochester and posted a 6.98 ERA, throwing 38.2 innings with 12 appearances and 10 starts, allowing 40 hits, 30 earned runs, eight home runs, 27 walks, 41 strikeouts, and a 1.733 WHIP.
During his six seasons in the minors, Munoz has a lifetime record of 14-22 with a 5.23 ERA in 91 appearances and 58 starts with one complete game and recording one save, throwing 297.2 innings, allowing 280 hits, 173 earned runs, 31 home runs, 161 walks, 324 strikeouts, and a 1.482 WHIP.
