The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats have not been intimidated by the tough competition they have faced in recent midweek games.
The Wildcats have two straight wins over Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponents during mid-week slates. On April 7, they defeated the reigning national champion, the LSU Tigers, 10-7 in Baton Rouge. Then, on April 14, they defeated the Florida Gators 13-7 in Gainesville.
The win over Florida is just the second time ever that Bethune-Cookman has defeated the Gators.
These two wins over SEC teams reflect a successful season for the Wildcats so far.
Bethune-Cookman sits at the top of the SWAC standings
Bethune-Cookman has won every weekend series in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this season.
This includes series wins over Prairie View A&M, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Southern, and Mississippi Valley State.
Along with the two mid-week wins over Florida and LSU, the Wildcats also picked up a big mid-week win over the South Florida Bulls on March 31.
Bethune-Cookman has 26 wins this season, which is the most out of any team in the SWAC. They also have 12 conference wins this year, which is tied for the most. Texas Southern and Florida A&M also have 12 wins.
D1 Baseball’s latest Field of 64 projections have the Wildcats as a four seed in the Athens regional. This means that Bethune-Cookman is on pace to make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2025, they played in the NCAA Tournament’s Tallahassee regional.
Up next for the Wildcats
Bethune-Cookman’s next game is on Friday, April 17, against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. The game is at the Wildcats’ home ballpark, Sliwa Stadium, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The first pitch for the game is at 7 p.m. ET.
