The Southern Miss Golden Eagles took out Ole Miss in a mid-week game on a neutral site in Biloxi, Miss. They defeated the Rebels 6-2.
The win means that Southern Miss has taken down the two SEC teams in Mississippi this season. They also beat Mississippi State 3-0 back on Feb. 18.
This is the icing on the cake for the Golden Eagles in non-conference play. Head coach Christian Ostrander has his team sitting with a 13-5 record in non-conference games and a 15-6 overall record.
D1 Baseball thinks highly of the team. In their most recent rankings, they have the Golden Eagles ranked 19th overall.
Southern Miss also earned their first series win in Sun Belt win this past weekend as they took two out of three games from the Old Dominion Monarchs.
Pitching has been the Key for Southern Miss in 2025 – The Golden Eagles rank towards the top of the Sun Belt in pitching. This kind of success paid dividends for them in their two biggest wins of the season against Ole Miss and Mississippi State. They gave up just two runs in those two games combined.
Three of their main starters, J.B. Middleton, Kros Sivley, and Matthew Adams, all have ERAs of 3.20 or lower. Colby Allen has also been lights out with five saves this season.
It is this kind of pitching that makes Southern Miss a threat to win some Sun Belt championships for the fourth straight season.
They are back-to-back winners of the Sun Belt tournament and won the regular season title in 2022.
Up Next – The Golden Eagles will have their second conference weekend series next against the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. It will be three games on the road for Southern Miss at Lou St. Amant Field in Monroe, La.
Southern Miss is below .500 on the road this season.
The first pitch for the first matchup against Louisiana Monroe on Friday, Mar. 21, is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
