Mid-Major Watch: Western Kentucky Puts Together Best Start of Any Team in C-USA History

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are 20-1 to start the 2025 college baseball season.

Their one loss came against Murray State back on February 24, and they have won 15 straight games since then.

This has led to the best start in the history of Conference USA. They currently sit in first place, well ahead of the next best team, the Liberty Flames, who are 16-6 overall.

Another impressive feat for the Hilltoppers is that they are undefeated at home in Nick Denes Field.

Western Kentucky stacks up well with the rest of the country statistically. They are top five in the country in team batting average with a .339 mark and up there with teams like LSU and Florida State.

They are also top 10 in the country in total hits as a team this season with 240. This puts them in the same vicinity as teams like Alabama, Georgia, and Wake Forest.

Clearly, this is the team to beat in C-USA heading into conference play. Western Kentucky is also one of the big mid-major teams in college baseball fans should monitor going forward.

The Hilltoppers will begin C-USA play on the road against the Kennesaw State Owls. This is a three-game weekend series. The first pitch for the game on Friday, March 21, is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST at Fred Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
