On Sunday, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders shut out the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 5-0 to complete a weekend series sweep. The win came courtesy of a no-hitter from MTSU starting pitcher Drew Horn. The right-handed redshirt sophomore struck out 13 batters and gave up just two walks all game. He also threw 110 total pitches.
The no-hitter is the fifth one ever in the history of the Blue Raider baseball program. Chandler Alderman threw one for the team last season against Liberty.
Due to this emphatic performance, Horn was named Conference USA (C-USA) pitcher of the week.
The right-hander now has a season ERA of 1.48 and a record of 2-1. He has struck out 38 batters in 24 and 1/3 innings of work and has allowed an opposing batting average of .100.
He also has given up just one home run and ten walks total this season while facing 94 batters.
With the win on Sunday that came from Horn’s no-hitter, the Blue Raiders are now 9-5 this season. Their next game is a midweek matchup against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Tuesday, Mar. 11. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at Reese Smith Jr. Field in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
